Yanji restaurant was stolen in an early morning

In the early morning of May 18, residents of Yanji awoke to an alarming discovery — their store’s safe had vanished without a trace. "The thief must have been watching us before work," said one local, describing how a heavy 200-pound safe was taken, which would have been difficult for one person to move. The theft occurred during the early hours when the store was closed, leaving the owner in shock. Around 9 a.m., officers from the Yanji City Public Security Bureau’s Special Police Brigade Nine Squadron received a call about a strange object found near the Yanji River, close to the Health Bridge. It turned out to be an abandoned safe, partially buried in silt. The device was roughly 1 meter tall and 0.5 meters wide, gray in color, with a broken lock. When the police opened it, they found nothing inside — just an empty shell. As the investigation continued, the Yanji Public Security Command Center received another report: a local woman claimed her safe had gone missing. Upon arriving at the scene, reporter Ms. Yu confirmed that the found safe was indeed hers. She runs a small catering business in a street-front shop near the Health Bridge. On the night of May 17, she left the store late, as the nearby morning market stalls were still open until 3 a.m. Due to the late hour, she didn’t activate the in-store surveillance system and didn’t have anyone on duty. “I think the thief took advantage of the half-hour window after closing,” she said. Ms. Yu mentioned that the shutter door had been damaged, and the safe weighed around 100 kilograms, making it hard for one person to carry away. She suspects the crime involved more than one individual. Approximately 3,000 yuan in cash was stolen, along with some cigarettes and other items in the store. Surprisingly, the thieves only targeted the safe and left the rest untouched. She hopes this incident will serve as a warning to others, emphasizing the importance of security measures and vigilance. “Don’t take it lightly,” she urged fellow business owners. “Stay alert, even during off-hours.” This case highlights the need for better security practices, especially for small businesses operating in high-traffic areas. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging the public to remain cautious and report any suspicious activity.
