Winter floor installation precautions

Once the floor is installed, many homeowners believe the job is complete. However, proper maintenance and follow-up care are just as important as the installation itself. Here are some key considerations that every homeowner should keep in mind after installing their floor.

First, maintain proper humidity levels

The ideal humidity range for a floor's normal use environment is between 50% and 60%. If the air is too dry, especially during winter, it can cause the floor to shrink or crack. In homes with underfloor heating, keeping the indoor humidity at a balanced level is one of the most effective ways to prevent warping or deformation of the flooring.

Second, be careful with daily maintenance

If you're using multi-layer parquet with underfloor heating, the surface layer is only about 0.6 mm thick, which makes it more vulnerable to damage. For example, if chair legs aren't protected, sitting on them can easily crush the surface of the floor. To avoid this, consider using felt pads or protective caps on furniture legs to reduce direct pressure on the floor.

Third, control the temperature carefully

Before installation, make sure the underfloor heating system has been properly pressure tested to avoid leaks that could damage the floor. The water temperature in the system should not exceed 60°C. During the initial heating phase, the temperature increase should be gradual. Start by setting the water temperature about 10°C higher than the room’s current temperature, but never above 32°C. Run the system continuously for 48 hours, increasing the temperature by 3°C every 24 hours until reaching the desired level. Also, ensure that the ground temperature directly beneath the floor doesn’t go above 42°C to protect the integrity of the flooring.
