When testing silicone rubber buttons, it's important to understand which parameters need to be evaluated. This includes button switches, light touch switches, membrane switches, and micro-switches. Generally, the key parameters to test are the peak force, valley force, and corresponding displacement values from the displacement meter — totaling four data points. Additionally, there are two more measurements from the hand feel and tactile feel meters. Then, the rebound peak, rebound valley, and their corresponding displacement values add another four data points. In total, these 10 main parameters are commonly tested.
In addition to the standard parameters, customers may have specific requirements for the load and displacement at the conduction point and the break point, as well as the on-resistance value — adding five more data points. Some customers also want to measure the maximum stroke of the button, which is determined by the relationship between load and displacement. Other auxiliary functions such as stroke-load curves may also be required. As a result, some suppliers claim to test over 20 data points using their load curve machines, but many of these are just extra features that don’t significantly impact the core performance.
Among all these data points, the sampling rate of the load curve meter plays a critical role in accurately capturing the valley value and the tactile feel. If the sampling rate is too low, the real valley points may not be detected, leading to an exaggerated valley value and a lower tactile feedback reading. Therefore, when purchasing a load curve meter for key switches, customers should not only focus on how many data points the machine can collect, but also on the accuracy of the data itself.
