When testing silicone rubber buttons, it's important to understand what parameters are essential. This includes tests for silicone button switches, light touch switches, membrane switches, and micro-switches. Typically, the main data points tested include the peak force, valley force, and corresponding displacement values from the displacement meter—this makes up four key data points. Additionally, two more measurements are taken using a tactile feel meter and a force gauge. Then there are the rebound peak force, valley point force, and their corresponding displacement values—another four data points. Altogether, this covers about 10 core test parameters.
In addition to these standard parameters, customers may have specific requirements such as the load and displacement at the conduction point, the load and displacement at the break point, and the on-resistance value—adding another five data points. Some clients also require testing the maximum stroke of the button, which involves measuring both load and stroke. Other auxiliary functions like stroke-load curves might be included too. As a result, some suppliers may claim to test over 20 data points using their load curve machines. However, many of these are just extra features and not necessarily essential for most applications.
Among all the data collected, the sampling rate of the load curve meter plays a critical role in determining the accuracy of the valley force and tactile feedback. If the sampling rate is too low, it may miss real valley points, leading to an exaggerated valley value and a lower tactile reading. Currently, Japan MAX is considered the international benchmark for accuracy. Recently, our company has been working with high-end clients and has achieved test results that align closely with those from Japan MAX equipment.
Therefore, when purchasing a load curve meter for key switches, customers should not only focus on how many data points the machine can collect but also on the accuracy of the data itself. It’s important to note that the accuracy of these results cannot be verified by third-party reports alone. Only data obtained from internationally recognized testing equipment should be considered reliable.
