Anti-static and ultra-clean fabrics differ from regular anti-static fabrics in the concept of "cleanliness." Anti-static clean fabrics must possess three key characteristics:
- Anti-Static Function: Static electricity can attract dust, which is hard to remove when it's airborne. Therefore, the primary feature of anti-static clean fabrics is their ability to prevent static buildup. This anti-static property needs to be long-lasting and efficient, not significantly reduced by washing or daily use.
- No Dust Emission: Since these fabrics are used in cleanrooms, they must not become a source of contamination themselves. As a result, ultra-clean fabrics are made using chemically synthesized long fibers. Natural short fibers like cotton, hemp, or silk are unsuitable, even though they may enhance the fabric’s appearance. The chemical fibers used must also be carefully controlled to minimize dust generation. For example, fully stretched polyester filaments are often avoided because the addition of titanium dioxide during production can introduce pollutants.
- Good Dust Filtration: Most dust in a cleanroom comes from air movement and human activity. To improve cleanliness, the fabric should effectively capture tiny particles generated by the body while allowing airflow. This is known as high dust filtration. However, increasing filtration efficiency usually reduces fabric permeability, so loosely woven knits or weaves are not ideal for cleanroom use.
