Trina Solar Monocrystalline Module Output World Record

On April 8, 2014, Trina Solar made a significant breakthrough in the photovoltaic industry by announcing that its monocrystalline silicon solar module—featuring 60 cells measuring 156 mm x 156 mm—set a new world record for output power among P-type monocrystalline modules. This achievement was independently verified by TUV Rheinland, with the peak power (Pmax) reaching an impressive 326.3 watts. This milestone highlights that Trina Solar’s mass-produced PERC (Passivated Emitter Rear Cell) high-efficiency modules have reached the top tier globally. The module was developed using the company’s advanced research platform at the China National Key Laboratory of Photovoltaic Science and Technology, leveraging a pilot-scale production of its proprietary Honey Ultra high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon cell technology. Honey Ultra, the second-generation version of Trina Solar’s Honey technology, had previously set a world record for polysilicon modules in May 2012. At that time, it achieved a peak power output of 284.7 watts using the same 60-cell configuration. Now, the latest iteration of the Honey Ultra technology represents a major leap forward, incorporating a range of cutting-edge innovations such as advanced battery back passivation, anti-reflective coating, and low-resistance interconnection techniques—all developed in-house. These technologies ensure superior performance and efficiency, reinforcing Trina Solar’s position as a leader in high-efficiency solar solutions. Since the establishment of the State Key Laboratory of Photovoltaic Science and Technology in November 2013, Trina Solar has continued to push the boundaries of photovoltaic innovation. The successful development of the Honey Ultra modules marks another key milestone, following the company's earlier achievement of 24.4% efficiency in Back Contact Interdigitated Back Contact (IBC) cells. This progress signals that high-efficiency PERC-based monocrystalline modules are now ready for large-scale commercial deployment, which is expected to significantly boost the adoption of high-performance solar panels across the global photovoltaic market. Dr. Feng Zhiqiang, Vice President of Trina Solar Technology and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Photovoltaic Science and Technology, emphasized the company’s long-term commitment to advancing high-efficiency solar cell technology. Through continuous investment in R&D and the creation of a top-tier laboratory, Trina Solar has successfully developed a series of innovative, patented technologies and high-quality products. The company remains at the forefront of the industry in terms of invention patent applications and authorizations. Looking ahead, Trina Solar aims to accelerate the widespread adoption of affordable solar energy, driving the transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
