On December 16, 2012, the largest PCBN tool manufacturer in China, Fu Nike, along with its joint agent, successfully organized the first PCBN tool technology seminar focused on brake disc processing in Dongying, Shandong. The event brought together over 20 companies from nearby cities such as Zibo, Weifang, and Hebei, with key personnel from production, R&D, and procurement departments attending. The seminar aimed to explore the latest advancements in PCBN tools and their application in the efficient machining of brake discs.
The discussion centered around the challenges faced in traditional brake disc manufacturing, where coated carbide or ceramic inserts were commonly used. These tools typically lasted for only 20-50 parts before requiring replacement, leading to frequent machine stops and low productivity. In contrast, PCBN inserts offer exceptional hardness, wear resistance, and thermal stability, making them ideal for cutting gray cast iron—commonly used in brake disc blanks.
Fu Nike’s PCBN inserts have been widely recognized for their superior impact resistance and high-temperature performance. They have already gained approval from major brake disc manufacturers like Yantai Resort. During the seminar, Fu Nike’s technical engineer Huang Jiangang delivered a detailed presentation on how PCBN tools can revolutionize the industry. He introduced advanced solutions such as integral polycrystalline tools and super-hard welded tools, emphasizing their role in high-efficiency machining of gray cast iron.
Real-world case studies and video demonstrations were shared to illustrate the benefits of using PCBN tools. Compared to traditional inserts, Fu Nike’s PCBN tools showed more than three times the cutting efficiency and blade life. This led to an engaging Q&A session, where participants asked detailed questions and received thorough answers from Fu Nike engineers.
To meet the strong interest from attendees, Fu Nike provided trial samples on-site and planned on-site technical support in the following days. This hands-on approach not only helped companies understand the advantages of PCBN tools but also gave them the opportunity to test the technology directly.
The combination of theoretical insights and practical guidance was highly appreciated by the participants. Many found it eye-opening, helping them rethink their traditional manufacturing methods and address long-standing issues of low efficiency and high costs. This seminar marked a significant step forward in promoting the adoption of PCBN tools in the brake disc industry.
