What is compressed oxygen self-rescuer, what are the characteristics

Compressed oxygen self-rescuers, also known as isolated compressed oxygen self-rescuers, are reusable personal safety devices designed to provide breathable oxygen in emergency situations. They operate by using high-pressure oxygen stored in a cylinder, making them ideal for environments where toxic gases or oxygen deficiency pose a serious threat—such as in coal mines or during industrial accidents.

These devices work by isolating the user's respiratory system from the surrounding air, allowing individuals to escape from dangerous conditions quickly and safely. Their compact design, lightweight build, and ease of use make them highly practical for both emergency responders and workers in hazardous environments. Available in different models with protection times of 15, 30, and 45 minutes, they can be tailored to specific safety needs.

The working mechanism of a compressed oxygen self-rescuer involves several key functions. First, it provides a controlled flow of oxygen: by turning the switch wheel counterclockwise, high-pressure oxygen is released from the cylinder into a pressure regulator, which then reduces the pressure and delivers a steady 1.2 liters per minute into the breathing bag.

Additionally, users can manually trigger a higher oxygen flow by pressing a pressure plate, which allows 60 liters per minute of oxygen to enter the breathing bag. Once the finger is removed, the flow stops. In cases where the user inhales deeply or experiences negative pressure in their breathing system, an automatic replenishment feature activates, opening the oxygen valve to deliver another 60 liters per minute until the system stabilizes.

During inhalation, oxygen travels through the breathing bag, valves, and mouthpiece into the user’s lungs. When exhaling, the air passes through the exhalation hose and enters the cleaning canister, where carbon dioxide is absorbed by a chemical absorbent. The remaining oxygen is then mixed with fresh oxygen from the pressure regulator, completing the breathing cycle and ensuring continuous, safe respiration.
