In recent years, the development of cast-in-place and heat-insulating aluminum doors and windows has been rapid, with their market share continuously increasing. In 2004, the China Non-Ferrous Metals Standardization Technical Committee introduced the national standard "Aluminum Alloy Building Profile Part 6: Insulation Profile" for cast-in-place heat-insulating profiles, commonly known as GB5237.6. Based on the test results from GB5237.6, we evaluated cast-type profiles. The most common method involved checking the tensile strength and shear resistance of the heat-insulating material at normal temperature, high and low temperatures. However, this approach focused only on tensile strength and ignored other important physical properties of the insulation itself, which is not scientifically sound. To address this issue, in 2012, led by the China Non-Ferrous Metals Standardization Technical Committee, Yasong Polyurethanes (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and the National Chemical Building Materials Testing Center jointly developed several national standards for heat-insulating rubber materials. These were incorporated into the "Aluminum Alloy Building Profiles Assistive Materials," specifically Part 2: Polyurethane Heat-Insulating Adhesive Material. This standard was officially released as GB/T 23615.2 and became effective starting in 2013. GB5237.6 mainly focuses on the wind pressure resistance of cast-in-place heat-insulating profiles and the shrinkage after long-term use. One of the key technical indicators is the shear resistance of the heat-insulating profile. On the other hand, GB/T 23615.2 emphasizes the properties of the heat-insulating adhesive itself, such as impact strength, machinability, and applicability. Among these, the notch impact strength and elongation at break are particularly important. This means that even if all the inspection items of the cast-in-place thermal insulation profiles you purchase meet the requirements of GB/T 23615.2—such as tensile, shear, and thermal cycle tests—it doesn’t necessarily mean they are free from potential safety risks. For true safety, it’s essential that the test items of the heat-insulating glue used in this batch of profiles also pass. The most critical test item in GB/T 23615.2 is the notch impact strength. The qualification of this indicator directly affects whether your profile will become brittle or deformed. Even if the shear force meets the requirements, if the impact resistance of the insulating rubber is poor, the profile may crack, deform, or even cause a safety accident. Therefore, when selecting cast profiles, it's not enough to just obtain the profile's inspection report. You should also ask the supplier for the inspection report of the insulating glue or request a sample of the insulating glue for self-testing. For a long time, aluminum manufacturers and door and window companies lacked a unified standard for determining whether the heat-insulating glue was qualified. The introduction of GB/T 23615.2 has resolved this issue. It provides detailed regulations on testing methods, polyurethane heat-insulating rubber packaging, and quality certificates, offering a clear standard for evaluating the quality of insulation rubber. Polyurethane insulation testing is divided into two main categories: original rubber testing and polyurethane insulation rubber sheet testing. Original glue testing includes appearance quality checks and manual solidification time measurements. Insulation rubber sheet testing involves appearance quality, density, load deformation temperature, thermal conductivity, notched Izod impact strength, Shore hardness, room temperature tensile strength, elongation at break, low temperature tensile strength, and UV aging resistance. The most critical test among these is the notched Izod impact strength, which is a destructive test used to measure the energy absorbed by polyurethane when it breaks. This helps assess the material's impact resistance and determine its brittleness or toughness. Insulation adhesive samples are prepared using templates of at least 170mm x 170mm x 12mm and 300mm x 300mm x 12mm. The notched Izod impact strength of the insulation rubber sheet determines whether the strength of your thermal insulation profile meets the standard. It also plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of windows in high-rise buildings, preventing potential structural failures or accidents. This indicator is extremely important and should be taken seriously. If you're purchasing or using cast-insulated profiles, it's recommended that you request the manufacturer to provide the latest impact test report from the National Chemical Building Materials Testing Center. If the supplier cannot provide it, you can ask for a sample of the rubber sheet and contact a local testing organization to conduct the impact strength test. The cost of such an experiment is generally around 200–300 RMB.
