SmartGap technology enables manufacturers to change sheet thickness at an unprecedented rate, expand the thickness range of their products, and improve sheet quality while achieving these improvements. The system uses a single point adjustment mechanism that changes the length of the lip straightening area while changing the lip gap to provide the most appropriate conditions for the newly set thickness as the sheet exits the die. By mechanically connecting the adjustments of these two key process variables, the SmartGap system ensures that the die settings are correct and saves objective time and without guesswork to achieve the desired sheet performance.
SmartGap Payback Analysis users can enter two types of information: 1) a one-time cost of a standard sheet die with a removable lower lip and the latest SmartGap system investment; and 2) process data, including die length, Productivity, die gap change and lip replacement times, number of working days, raw material costs, approximate product sales price, and hourly overhead costs for the sheet line.
Using these inputs, the tool can calculate daily output values ​​for both systems, including downtime, throughput gaps, downtime costs, gap product gross margins, and total downtime costs; comparing the time required to change the lip and changing the SmartGap system The time required for the die gap; and the estimated time required for the SmartGap system to complete the investment recovery.
