Introduction to environmentally friendly green cutting methods

Nowadays, the society pursues energy conservation and pollution-free. In the numerical control industry, there is also a "green cutting". The so-called green cutting technology is a part of green manufacturing. It means no toxic side effects on the ecological environment and the small environment at the processing site. A small amount of waste gas, waste liquid and waste residue generated during the processing can be recycled or naturally degraded at the end of the chain, reaching the pollution-free environmental protection demand, and is not harmful to human health and the environment.

Green manufacturing without pollution, cleanliness and low energy consumption is the development direction of the 21st century machinery manufacturing industry. Therefore, research and development of new green cutting technology, reduce the pollution caused by cutting fluid to the environment, and seek green and environmentally friendly cooling and smoothing technology is an important issue for the application of green cutting technology. This will promote the continuous and healthy development of the machinery industry. Below, Wuhan Jinjia CNC will give you a brief introduction to several ways of environmentally friendly low energy cutting technology:

1. Minimum amount of smooth cutting
The minimum amount of smooth cutting refers to a cutting process in which the compact air is mixed with a very small amount of smooth liquid and then vaporized to the processing area to stop effectively smoothing. It can greatly reduce the amount of cutting fluid, can effectively reduce the friction between the tool and the workpiece, the tool and the chip, avoid bonding, extend the life of the tool, and improve the quality of the processed surface. At present, this technology is mainly used for drilling, reaming, tapping, deep hole drilling, aluminum alloy face milling of cast iron, steel and aluminum alloy.

2. Gas jet cooling cutting
The gas jet cooling cutting is a cutting processing method in which a jet gas of a certain pressure is flushed into a processing zone to obtain a cooling effect. Gas jet cooling cutting has advantages in terms of cooling effect, workpiece machining quality and tool life.

3. Liquid nitrogen cooling cutting
Liquid nitrogen cooling cutting is the application of liquid nitrogen characteristics, which constitutes a low temperature in the cutting zone, thus modifying the physical and mechanical properties of the workpiece data to make it suitable for advanced cutting technology. Under liquid nitrogen cooling conditions, the tool wear can be reduced by about 4 times, and the workpiece surface roughness can be reduced by more than 6 times. Liquid nitrogen cooling cutting is very beneficial for the processing of difficult-to-machine materials such as titanium alloy, low-alloy steel, mild steel and some high-plastic (tough) composite materials.

4. Water vapor cooling cutting
Water vapor cooling cutting is a cutting method in which superheated steam is radiated to the cutting zone to achieve smooth cooling. Its cutting system consists of a steam explosion installation, a water vapor transmission and control system and a machine tool system. The research indicates that water vapor cooling cutting can reduce the cutting force and the roughness of the workpiece surface, significantly reduce the cutting temperature, and the generated chips are more regular and reasonable, and the smoothness is improved. Water vapor is cheap and non-polluting and is a good green smoothing agent. Currently, the technology is still in the research stage.

5. Low temperature air cooling cutting
The cutting system for cryogenic air-cooled cutting consists mainly of cold wind installation and cutting systems. Low temperature air-cooled cutting can significantly reduce the temperature of the cutting zone, improve the wear resistance of the tool, prolong the service life of the tool, improve the quality of the processed surface, and have no pollution to the environment.

6. Dry cutting
Dry cutting means that no cutting fluid is used during the cutting process, which is a green cutting method that fits the ecological request. Its main advantages are: no pollution to the atmosphere and water environment; no residual liquid on the chips, reducing the cost of cleaning and disposal; harmless to human health and will not damage the skin or form allergies.
