AnalogicTech introduces a six-channel backlight charge pump

Advanced Analogic Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: AATI), a power management semiconductor developer for mobile consumer electronics, today introduced the versatile, high efficiency dual charge pump AAT2803 .

The device supports white LED (light-emitting diode) backlighting and camera flash applications for portable systems (with polymer lithium-ion batteries). The AAT2803 can individually control three independent LED groups (two for backlighting and one for camera flash) and is equipped with seven channels (six for backlighting and one for camera flash). In addition, the AAT2803 greatly saves power and space in handheld devices equipped with two displays, and adds a light load mode to minimize power consumption when the handheld's display is in standby.

KinShum, director of strategic marketing at AnalogicTech, said: "Most of today's handheld devices are equipped with two displays: either a clamshell design (the primary display, the secondary display) or an upright design (with a primary display and backlight). Keyboard). By combining separate control of two separate backlight LED groups (with flash function) with light-load mode, the AAT2803 charge pump can help designers save energy while reducing component count and package size. ”

Maximize efficiency

The backlight charge pump can drive up to six LEDs at 180mA. The device can individually control two sets of four and two LEDs to provide backlighting for the primary and secondary displays. Output operations can be performed independently or in parallel.

The AAT2803 uses AnalogicTech's AS2Cwire(TM) (Advanced Simple Serial Control(TM)) digital interface to turn the LED on, off, or set for any of the 16 log scale ranges.

Four low current settings make it possible to operate in light load mode as low as 50uA (general).

The backlight charge pump operates in 1X, 1.5X, and 2X modes to maximize power efficiency. The operating mode is automatically selected by comparing the forward voltage and input voltage of each LED. The optimized sink current minimizes the voltage space required to drive each LED and maximizes power efficiency by extending the time the device is in 1X mode before switching to 1.5X mode.

Unlike most integrated solutions on the market today, the AAT2803 uses a dedicated charge pump to support backlighting. Therefore, its backlighting operation is not affected by the photographic flash because the photographic flash is driven by a separate charge pump engine.

Flash function

For flash applications, the device enables integration between the charge pump and the regulated output voltage. The circuit's continuous current is up to 120mA and the pulse current is up to 300mA. The circuit also adds a separate start pin to maximize system flexibility.

The AAT2803 has built-in integrated thermal protection that automatically shuts down in the event of an overload short circuit. Its smooth start circuit prevents current overload during start-up. By using a constant switching frequency of 1MHz, designers can support the device with ultra-small ceramic capacitors.

Pricing and listing

The AAT2803 will be available in a lead-free, thermally enhanced 24-pin QFN44 package with a temperature range of minus 40 to 80 degrees. The unit is priced at $1.97 (per 1000 lots).

LED Spot Light Series

LED to shoot the light, English name is LED spotlights, it is the most popular energy conservation and environmental protection products, with more and more of lamps and lanterns made of LED as light source, one of the most acclaimed is LED to shoot the light, as compared with other LED lamps, LED lamp price is lower.LED lamp is mainly used for decoration, commercial space, lighting and building lighting, etc., with the development and progress of LED technology, the market of LED lamp performance advantage is very outstanding, high purity aluminum reflector, the beam is the most accurate and reflective effect is best;Symmetrical light distribution systems such as narrow Angle, wide Angle and asymmetric etc., and the projector lamp is equipped with a scale plate, people can adjust the radiation Angle conveniently according to the scale. In addition, in order to facilitate maintenance, the LED projector lamp is replaced by a back-up switch. The lighting decoration effect is first-rate, and the LED projection lamp can realize the dynamic effects of gradual change, jumping, color flashing, random flashing, gradual change, chase and scanning.

LED Spot Light Series

Product superiority

1. LED spotlights can be driven by low-voltage direct current: it has the advantages of small load and weak interference, and has low requirements on the use environment.2. LED spotlights can control the composition of the luminous spectrum well, so that they can be well used for local or key lighting in museums and exhibition halls.

3. The luminous directivity of LED spotlights is very strong: the luminance attenuation is much lower than that of traditional light sources, and the price of LED spotlights is fairly civilian.

4. The response time of LED spotlights is very fast: at the microsecond level, as long as the switch is on, it will be on immediately without any delay or flicker.

5. The light energy concentration of LED spotlights is very high: it is concentrated in a small wavelength window with high purity.

6. The service life is very long, generally between 50,000 and 100,000 hours, because LED is a semiconductor device, and even frequent switching will not affect the service life.

7. Good environmental protection, LED to shoot the light in the process of production don't add "mercury", also do not need air, do not need glass shell, good impact resistance, good shock resistance, invulnerability to breakage and facilitate transportation, very green, known as "green energy", the LED lamp price.

8. Energy saving, the spectrum of LED spotlights is almost all concentrated in the visible light frequency band, and its luminous efficiency can reach 80 ~ 90%.It is generally believed that the energy-saving of energy-saving lamps 4/5 is a great innovation, but LED spotlights are more than 1/2 energy efficient than energy-saving lamps, which is a greater reform of solid light sources.
