Fast recycling of raw materials to make environmentally friendly high-density fiberboard

Recently, the University of Stuttgart in Germany has developed a new non-toxic, completely flexible fiberboard (flexible HDF) using rapidly renewable raw materials, which can be used to produce furniture or interior decoration. Fiberboard is widely used in the furniture industry or interior decoration. Depending on the manufacturing process and density, resins containing formaldehyde or isocyanate are usually added. Both of these substances have serious health risks to the human body.

Ordinary fiberboard has low flexibility and is restricted in decoration design. In addition, although it can be recycled, it cannot be composted.

The new flexible fiberboard developed by Professor Hana Dach, director of the Institute of Structural Design and Design at the University of Stuttgart, uses 80% -90% of renewable raw materials, such as straw, wheat, corn, oats, barley or Made from rye straw fiber. This natural fiber is spread all over the place as the remainder of the plant, and the cost is very low.

Another advantage of the new flexible fiberboard is that its silicate content can reach 20% of the dry fiber weight. Since silicate is a natural flame retardant material, the addition of pure mineral additives can meet the German standard for flame retardancy in the material category. The adhesive used is an environmentally compatible thermoplastic elastomer. Therefore, the fiberboard produced is virtually free of formaldehyde and isocyanate, thereby minimizing health risks throughout the product life cycle.

By adding different adhesives, the flexibility and stability of the board can be changed for different applications. Through various coatings, it can also be laminated and waterproof, and coloring can be achieved by colored lamination. At the end of its useful life, fiberboard can be recycled and even composted. In this way, the dual effects of material saving and environmental protection are achieved.

This environmentally friendly material registered under the name "Bioflexi" is inexpensive, and this novel high-density and flexible fiberboard can be used to produce furniture and partitions of various shapes, as well as floors with anti-slip and impact resistance properties. HDF flexible boards have applied for patents in the United States, Europe and Malaysia. The University of Stuttgart has commissioned a technology licensing agency to industrialize the invention and is looking for partners to bring it to market.
