Zhonghao Chenguangyuan Fluoride Project won

On June 25, 2012, the Provincial Science and Technology Innovation and Technology Awards Conference was held in Chengdu, where 252 scientific and technological achievements were honored with the Sichuan Science and Technology Progress Award. Among these, Zhonghao Chenguang Chemical Research Institute Co., Ltd. received the first prize for its groundbreaking work on the industrialization of new technologies for organic fluorine monomers and high-performance fluoropolymers. The project involved comprehensive research into reaction mechanisms, polymerization processes, key equipment, and engineering technologies, resulting in the development of five types of high-purity, high-performance organic fluorine monomers and specialty fluororesins, including tetrafluoroethylene and perfluoromethyl vinyl ether. Two major fluoropolymer products—fluororubber and PTFE—were successfully scaled up for industrial production. Additionally, the team introduced clean production methods, such as plasma treatment for organic fluorine waste, ensuring safer and more environmentally friendly manufacturing processes. The project has secured 28 national invention patents, showcasing its innovation and technical excellence. In addition to the product development, the project launched several large-scale industrialization initiatives, including a 1,500-ton-per-year fluororubber plant, a 2,500-ton-per-year PTFE resin facility, and a 2,500-ton-per-year concentrated dispersion line. Over 40 high-performance fluoropolymer series have been developed, significantly expanding the company's product portfolio. Since 2010, the project has generated a total revenue of 49.62 billion yuan and contributed 1.348 billion yuan in profits and taxes. Fluoropolymers play a crucial role in advanced technology fields and are essential for emerging industries such as energy efficiency, environmental protection, new energy, automotive, and biomedicine, as well as for upgrading traditional sectors. However, the production of organic fluorine products is complex, with long processes, numerous by-products, and high environmental and safety challenges. Prior to this project, China's fluoropolymer market had limited variety, with fewer than 50 product specifications, and high-performance polymers were largely imported. This achievement marks a significant breakthrough in breaking foreign technological monopolies and meeting the urgent demands of both the defense industry and the high-end civilian market. It not only enhances domestic capabilities but also strengthens the country’s strategic material security and industrial independence.
