It's no secret that solar panels can generate impressive amounts of current, and their performance is closely tied to factors like efficiency, panel size, and the angle at which sunlight hits them. But when it comes to designing a solar-powered electric bicycle, how do you actually go about positioning the panels? Designer Mojtaba Raeisi has come up with an intriguing concept that offers a fresh perspective on this challenge.
Instead of simply attaching the panels to the bike’s frame—something that might look more like a cluttered decoration than a well-thought-out design—Raeisi took a different approach. He removed both the front and rear wheels, creating a central space where circular solar panels could be placed. These panels are designed to be adjustable in angle, typically positioned parallel to the bike’s body for a sleek look. When not in use, they can be tilted downward to maximize energy absorption without interfering with riding or parking.
Of course, there are still some practical concerns, like dirt accumulation and security. The designer may have overlooked these aspects, but that leaves room for further innovation. It's a great starting point for engineers and designers who want to push the boundaries of sustainable transportation. Are we ready to take on this challenge and make solar-powered bikes a reality?
