A research team from Pennsylvania State University has made breakthroughs in the optical stealth capabilities of nanomaterials. In the future, humans may indeed be able to develop invisible cloaks. The 80 nanometer-thick film of nano-materials can hide the small objects that are covered. The concept of invisibility does not allow light to completely penetrate the objects that are covered. Instead, the covered 3D object looks like a plane. For example, the nanocloth covers the person on the floor, and people can only see the floor and the flat nanocloth, and will not show the human shape.
Scientists explained that fabric made of this kind of nano material can completely planarize the object. The figure can explain the principle very well: The tiny gold bricks made of nano-materials constitute numerous micro-antennas on the fabric. The light is totally reflected and there is no refraction or diffuse reflection.
If there is no diffuse reflection, the human eye will not recognize the shape, thinking that it is a plane. However, scientists are currently explaining that this cloth can only be applied to micron-sized objects. They are improving their technology and may be applied to larger objects in the future. Another drawback that needs to be overcome is that this technology can currently only be invisible to light of a single color. For example, the object may disappear when viewed by red light, but the object may still appear under blue light.
