Chinese fertilizer may be the best technology to eat carbon

When it comes to the use of carbon dioxide technology, there are many new technologies in the world today. So, is there any mature technology that uses carbon dioxide in traditional technology and has not yet been recognized? Just as people's understanding of aspirin is deepening and new discoveries are constantly being discovered.
Since last year, scientists in the United States have begun to have a great interest in the mechanism of the use of carbon dioxide by China's unique fertilizer, ammonium bicarbonate, and believe that it is probably the best carbon-consuming technology in use. Experts from the US Department of Energy have also repeatedly visited China to discuss technologies for joint research on ammonium bicarbonate. To this end, the reporter interviewed Professor Zhang Zhiming from the Institute of Applied Ecology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Professor Zhang Zhiming said that there are many solutions for fixing carbon dioxide in the world, such as putting carbon dioxide into dry sea like coral and putting it into the abandoned mine. But these programs have not turned waste into treasure, and they cost a lot.
In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, due to the limitations of production, it was impossible to build a large-scale synthetic ammonia fertilizer plant in China, so China developed ammonium bicarbonate. The process is to add carbon dioxide gas to water to become carbonic acid; and then ammonium to synthesize ammonium hydrogen. There are also such products abroad, however, it is only used as a small amount of food additives.
The 80% of ammonium bicarbonate originally developed has been volatilized. After more than 40 years of technical transformation, China has invested 20,000 scientific research strengths. Now, the production of energy-saving and large-particle granules has achieved results, but there has been no control in volatilization. make a progress. Since then, the Institute of Ecological Application of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has solved the volatilization of ammonium and found an ammonium stabilizer, an organic substance. Stabilizing the ammonium ions reduces the volatilization of ammonium by 52%. In 1997, the long-acting ammonium bicarbonate was awarded the special prize of the Academy of Sciences.
The United States proposes to control greenhouse gas emissions, first of all to control emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrous oxide. At present, the world has made great progress in the research of sulfur recovery, but there has been no major breakthrough in the control and utilization of nitrogen and carbon dioxide. The US Department of Energy attaches great importance to the research of long-acting ammonium bicarbonate in China, and has been seeking cooperation research with China. So, how much carbon dioxide can long-acting ammonium bicarbonate eat? How do you eat carbon dioxide?
When ammonium bicarbonate becomes a long-acting fertilizer, the pH of the soil is reduced by 0.3-0.5% after testing, which reduces the volatilization rate of carbon dioxide, so that the absorption of carbonic acid by plants increases. Through the use of plants, the use of carbon dioxide has increased, reducing emissions by approximately 18-3%. At the same time, the emission of nitrous oxide from unknown gases is reduced by 30%-70%.
Professor Zhang Zhiming said that even some people have proposed such a scientific idea. The power plant is currently the largest emission site for carbon dioxide in China. In the future, large chemical fertilizer plants may be combined with power plants. If sprayed with ammonia, the carbon dioxide can be absorbed and mitigated. The three pollutant gases, sulfur dioxide and nitrous oxide, can be used to solve the production of fertilizer plants by using about 18%-25% of the carbon dioxide emitted. Of course, this is only a scientific idea. At present, this research is far from the possibility of implementing the connection between the fertilizer plant and the power plant. However, the United States has slowed down its research on this project recently due to the international community’s compromise on the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol’s carbon tax. Professor Zhang Zhiming believes that China should conduct research on the use of carbon dioxide by ammonium bicarbonate. It is possible to establish a parameter system and a process system first. We cannot study it because of the slowdown of the outside world. After all, this is a scientific project that benefits mankind and benefits China. China Economic Herald
