These individual pieces are then assembled to form the complete contour of the plastic mold. Some complex molds may consist of as many as 400 separate metal components. Once the base structure is in place, moldmakers apply traditional techniques to refine the shape and surface finish. Additionally, the design allows for the insertion of watermarks or other features between the metal layers.
