With the government pushing for a faster pace of urbanization, the real estate and construction industries have seen significant growth. This has led to increased demand for residential products, including furniture. As a result, the furniture industry is becoming more standardized and industrialized, with greater emphasis on efficiency and product quality. However, despite these developments, some companies still fall short in terms of environmental safety standards.

Recently, the term "zero formaldehyde" has gained attention among consumers. Formaldehyde, a colorless gas with a strong odor, has long been a concern in the furniture and home decoration sectors. It's often referred to as a major contributor to indoor air pollution. When levels of formaldehyde in the air reach dangerous concentrations, it can cause serious health issues, including poisoning and even death in extreme cases.

Many furniture manufacturers prioritize profit over consumer well-being, using excessive amounts of formaldehyde in their products. Consumers often lack the knowledge to identify harmful materials, making them vulnerable to misleading claims. Once furniture is brought home, the formaldehyde continues to off-gas over time, gradually increasing indoor pollution levels. This has led to numerous incidents where companies show little responsibility, damaging consumer trust and making buyers more cautious when purchasing furniture.

Just recently, the Beijing Consumer Association conducted a quality test on mattresses in the capital city. The results revealed that out of 50 samples tested, 25 had excessive formaldehyde levels, resulting in a failure rate of 50%. Despite this, many furniture brands claim their products are "formaldehyde-free," yet they cannot provide valid certifications or inspection reports to back up their claims.

In response to such issues, there is a need for stronger national regulations and clearer standards for furniture products. Companies without proper certification should not be allowed to sell their products. A product certification system could be introduced, evaluating both large and small enterprises. Products that meet the criteria would receive state recognition, ensuring safer options for consumers. This would not only enhance consumer confidence but also promote a healthier industry environment, offering better protection for buyers.

As the market becomes more aware of the risks associated with harmful chemicals, it's essential for businesses to adopt transparent and responsible practices. Only through improved regulation and consumer education can the furniture industry move toward a safer and more sustainable future.
